Easter Morning all dolled up for church
... who exactly is a break for - not me for darn sure- we decided to take the 10- days off of school and head west to my parent's home on the beautiful Vancouver Island. Now some have made the trek west and know it is very far!!! and Our kids are really good traveller's I think Big M played his Nintendo DS for like 6 hrs on the first day (I am an awful mother!!) but they watched movies, we ate candy, I snuck the good candy and hubby and I ate it in the front and didn't even feel bad about not sharing! The trip there was great we stayed in a "hometel" in Abbostford caught the 9am ferry and arrived around 1pm- the trip home was a little harder- I'm not sure what we were thinking but we started off smart and ended up a little dumb - we caught the early morning ferry and were at the Vancouver Aquarium by 11am then and I am not sure why but we proceeded to drive the entire way home- so we left Vancouver at about 2pm and there is an hour time difference. Oh well - we are soooo not doing that again we arrived home after driving through sheeting rain and snow through the mountains and then a whiteout in Banff we arrived home just after 2am and Of course the kids who slept in the car were up by 7am(thanks Bo-bo) BUT we had a great time ~ We are so lucky to have such a cool place to visit and have free accommodations and great food. Last time we were there it was July so we spent each day travelling to new beaches and running, jumping, and playing in the ocean. This time with it being spring-like we were able to do different things - the boys spent lots of time with Grandpa on the boat from fishing to setting and pulling prawn traps (kinda a cool thing to say you've done), there were lots of hikes and we even had a picnic on the beach - yes you can still picnic with no sun and the beach is still there even if it is only 12 degrees- you just have to wear a parka and keep your shoes dry- proved to be too hard for the Fudge!! At the beach there were caves to be explored and my boys with $1.97 flashlights in hand were ready for the task!! I think my Dad, some may know, others not, has waited for a long time to have a few boy buddies and therefore I rarely saw my Hubby and boys they were to busy playing with Grandpa, who has a lot of ideas of things he has longed to do with boys who were interested. So Ivy and I stayed back a bit and spent time with a Grandma who has so much love for my kids that I think it just about kills her that they take a day to warm up but even Little Miss (who is such a Momma's girl) was sitting on her lap. We had such a great time and now after our "break?" we are back to the grind.
Big M and the Fudge showing how brave they are holding a prawn!
Bo-bo was the only one brave enough to let the sea urchin give his finger a kiss!
At Long Beach at the entrance to one of the caves
Dad went in barefoot to carry the boys across the the entrance of a cave
and that was some cold water!
The end of a long day for Bo-bo and yes he is missing a sock
but don't try to take away that slurpee!
Ready to head home!
sounds like a lot of fun and really it isn't a break at all for the mom's is it! I love the coast and island, it's beautiful!
