I have to admit- I was worried about this... Cory and I have had a number of talks about how we would handle this... how we would convince her... she is a strong minded little lady! I am talking about her friend, her comforter, her favorite thing... her soother! We have never really had a kid who ever really took to a soother - we have tried because we have always admired how they can calm a crying child down, help relax a little baby to sleep and well, it can serve as a great mute button! Now as all of you parents can attest, we have had, bought and lost like 15 soothers so we were down to 1 b/c we hoped we would be putting an end to this friendship soon. One day last week, I was going to put her soother away (b/c for anyone whose child has taken a soother- you must always know where that darn little thing is or all **** (for those who don't read *'s fill in the word Heck!) will break loose at bedtime!!) so I was putting it away and I noticed that it was broken, the chewy mouth part was almost severed in 2, she had almost chewed right through the silly thing. Anyway, I called our Little Miss over and showed her what I had seen and asked her if she thought we should throw it away b/c it was broken (I asked b/c I don't want this to come back and bite me in the bottom- so it was her idea!! - this isn't my first (parenting) rodeo - that's for Cory!!) So she thought that was what we should do so of course I grabbed my camera and made her do it in slow motion so we could always have these memories so while she and I waited for the dang flash to recharge we talked about how there would be no more soothers for bedtime. Now she is 2 years old and when bedtime came of course she had forgotten all about how it was her idea to throw the darn thing away but we made it through and she has a new bedtime friend - her Dora 'noculars and magnifying glass - it must be so nice to roll over in your sleep and have those hard plastic toys pry into your back! Heaven forbid she be attached to a doll!
Final moments (I know it was so hard for her)
The toss
See, it was her idea!
Next potty- training... I hear girls are easier than boys... I'll let you know!
Go Ivy and go mommy! Isn't it amazing when you actually do it and it is easier than you thought and you wonder why you didn't do it sooner? Congrats to Miss Ivy for being such a big girl!
